Unfolding Joy

You know how seeds emerge from the darkness of soil and flowers emerge from the darkness of a bud? That's how I see us, human beings, and how joy arises from a place deep within us. Happiness is often a response to outside stimuli but joy is something different. Joy is an inner state of being that radiates from the center out.

Beauty and joy are closely linked in my mind so I use beauty in my art and photography to represent joy. This piece was created to use the beauty of a flower to symbolize the spontaneous emergence of joy from the dark, unconscious recesses of our being, contributing something wonderful to the world. The swirling dark blue represents the reservoir of emotional energy within us and the light purple is the inspiration of spirit.
