Haunting Halloween Perch

tree, photography, black and white, dead, haunting
In honor of Halloween I'd like to share an image that reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven." I can imagine a large black bird perched on one of the dead branches, its eerie call ringing through the night.

It wouldn't be surprising if goblins made a home in the trunk where it was hollowed out by termites.

I would never recommend wandering in the desert at night, but on Halloween it will be even more scary. Owls and coyotes call out in the darkness as old tree branches creek in the wind. What's that rustling in the underbrush? It could be a rabbit, a snake, or maybe ... the ghosts of dead prisoners from the battle of Picacho Pass. This tree stands amid the rubble of old structures believed to be where prisoners were held. If it be spirits, I say run. Run as fast as you can to the bright lights beyond this haunted desert.
